MEDIA ADVISORY - UNSMIL Alerts Media, Social Network Users of A Misleading Facebook Page

Tripoli, 15 April 2013 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) alerts the media and social network users in Libya and abroad of a Facebook Page that introduces itself as "Security Council/Libya Branch/The Office of Fighting Crime" and falsely uses the name of a major organ of the United Nations and the UN logo.

The content of this Facebook Page which it attributes to the United Nations is fabricated and the reports it carries are totally baseless and unfounded.

Media are encouraged to contact UNSMIL's Public Information and Communication Office in Tripoli to enquire about news reports relating to the United Nations in Libya to ensure the validity and credibility of such reports prior to publishing it in order to avoid having such baseless statements mislead the public opinion.
