Message from DSRSG-Political and Acting Head of UNSMIL, Stephanie Koury, on Eid Al-Adha
On behalf of the United Nations family in Libya, I extend our sincere congratulations to the Libyan people on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha. May this celebration bring blessings and peace to all.
This Eid comes amid great hardship for the Libyan people. The ongoing political impasse and economic deterioration have severely impacted citizens, eroding their purchasing power and driving many into poverty, despite Libya's abundant resources.
The Libyan people have endured too much. Now is the time for authorities to make the well-being of Libyans the top priority. I call on all parties to be guided by the values of sacrifice and reconciliation that Eid represents, and to take the necessary steps to preserve Libya's unity and sovereignty, and achieve prosperity for all.
UNSMIL remains committed, through its good offices and in line with its mandate, to working with all parties to end the ongoing crisis, preserve Libya's unity and sovereignty, and ensure a stable and prosperous future for all its people.
Eid Mubarak.
