Note to Correspondents from the Spokesperson of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya on the Fifth Round of Talks of the Joint Drafting Committee

Tunis, September 30 - The Joint Drafting Committee of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State held its fifth meeting today to draft amendments to the Libyan Political Agreement in the presence of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Libya, Dr. Ghassan Salamé, amid a positive atmosphere and a clear convergence of views.

Today's dialogue continued with an in-depth discussion of the proposals of the two Councils on the composition, structure and responsibilities of the executive authority and the mechanism for selecting members of the Presidency Council. The members also started reviewing Article 8 of the Libyan Political Agreement in addition to discussing articles related to the Constitution.

Out of keenness to achieve results and create consensus on an initial draft for the amendments, which will bridge the period until election are held, the members of the Joint Committee decided to intensify their meetings with both dialogue committees of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State.

The members of the Joint Committee reaffirmed their determination to uphold the national interest above all considerations and work together to help Libya emerge from the ongoing crisis for the sake of the Libyan people.
