Tunis, 16 October 2017 - The House of Representative and High Council of State’s Joint Drafting Committee held its second meeting this week with a strong push to advance the finalization of the amendments to the Libyan Political Agreement.  

Today’s discussions, facilitated by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Libya, Dr. Ghassan Salamé, reached a pivotal moment when both sides came close to a clearer understanding of the selection-mechanism for the Presidency Council. The meeting was adjourned to give both sides the opportunity to consult with the Dialogue Committees of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State.

The Committee recognizes that much work remains ahead and will continue meetings and internal consultations tomorrow, fully aware of the time factor and the aspirations of the Libyan people to enter a stage of certainty embodied only in a stable, capable and fair state.
