Tripoli, 28 January 2014 - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is following with great concern the deteriorating security situation and violent clashes that have taken place in Wershfanah and neighbouring areas, which have caused many casualties. The Mission calls upon all parties to exert every effort to reach a prompt end to violence and restore security and stability in the area.

UNSMIL also welcomes the Government’s decision to establish a ministerial committee to address the crisis, and calls upon all to facilitate the mission of this committee and establish strong cooperation with it so as to remedy the causes of the current crisis, address its effects and spare the country any additional security instability.
