Press Statement on Kufra
Tripoli 27 February, 2012 - A team composed of the UN Humanitarian Country Team and the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has completed an assessment in Kufra, the scene of recent inter-communal fighting.
The assessment mission reported that the cease-fire brokered by local authorities a few days ago is still holding. However, the situation in Kufra remains tense. Based on the information received on the ground from both sides, more than 100 have been killed as a result of fighting, and as much as half of the town's population has sought refuge elsewhere. Some 200 foreign migrants are still waiting to be moved out from the area.
